The untold story of the fight for the Hudson River Valley, control of which, both the Americans and British firmly believed, would determine the outcome of the Revolutionary War.

"George C. Daughan --- winner of the prestigious Samuel Eliot Morison Award for Naval Literature --- integrates the war's naval elements with its political, military, economic, and social dimensions to create a major new study of the American Revolution.
Revolution on the Hudson offers a much clearer understanding of our founding conflict, and how it transformed a rebellion that Britain should have crushed into a war they could never win."...... W.W. Norton & Company

"Daughan deftly highlights how naval power shaped even war on land......"
W. A. Hay ........ The Wall Street Journal

BOOKLIST REVIEW FOR REVOLUTION ON THE HUDSON

This is a new review for Revolution on the Hudson from Mark Levine on Booklist.

"This is a solid naval history of America's War of independence from Great Britain, but its scope is far broader than the title suggests. Daughan, winner of the Samuel Eliot Morison Award for Naval Literature, successfully argues that the British strategy of isolating New England by claiming New York and the Hudson Valley ultimately backfired, but he also shows the roles Philadelphia, the Chesapeake Bay, the American South, and even the Caribbean played in the war. If the title is misleading, however, the book delivers an enlightening combination of military and regional history that will draw anyone interested in the naval side of the American Revolution."
